Clinics & Services
Ante Natal Care - will be provided by your doctor and the midwife, with referral to the consultant led obstetric service if necessary.
Post natal checks – please make an appointment to see your doctor six weeks after the birth of your baby.
Asthma Checks – annual checks (in your birthday month) with the practice nurse.
Baby Clinic/Child Development Checks carried out by appointment either by the doctor or the heath visitor. The health visitors hold a weekly mother and baby session at Blandford Clinic or the Families’ Medical Centre (for families at Blandford Camp).
Childhood Immunisations - are carried out weekly at Eagle House and the Families’ Medical Centre. Appointments are sent by the Child Health Department, Dorchester.
Breast Screening - is carried out by the Dorset Mobile Screening Unit, which visits the area once every three years. If you have any queries you may telephone the Unit direct on 01202 665558.
Cervical Smears are recommended routinely every 3 years for ladies between 25 and 49, and every five years for ladies between the ages of 50 and 64.
Chiropody/Podiatry - registered chiropodists/podiatrists hold regular clinics for patients of the practice. The service is available on the NHS to those patients with specific needs (eg some patients with diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, and patients with a foot infection). General foot care and toe nail cutting is not available on the NHS but can be accessed directly by patients through Prama Care.
Diabetic Checks - full annual checks (in your birthday month) with the practice nurse and your doctor, with an interim six month check with the practice nurse.
Drug and Alcohol Misuse - services provided by the NHS Dorset and may be accessed through referral to CADAS.
Family Planning - contraceptive services including emergency contraception, the fitting of IUDs, contraceptive implants and caps are offered. Please see the practice nurse (or your doctor for coil checks) for an annual contraceptive review.
Health Promotion - lifestyle advice and (initial) assistance to stop smoking is offered by appointment with the practice nurse – see Smokestop below.
Heart and other chronic conditions. . The practice nurse team and doctors provide regular monitoring and lifestyle clinics for patients who have on going medical problems. As with all annual checks they should ideally be in your birthday month. They will usually involve a nurse appointment followed by a doctor appointment 10 days later. Please speak to a receptionsit who will be able to advise.
HRT – Your doctor will advise in the first instance. For those ladies on HRT a regular annual check is needed with your doctor.
Immunisation of adults - including Diphtheria, Tetanus and Polio boosters.
Immunisation for foreign travel . Please complete a “pink holiday form” and make an appointment to see the practice nurse at least eight weeks before travel. Not all holiday injections are available through the national health service. See above tab for more details.
Flu and Pneumococcal Immunisations - available to those patients who suffer with asthma (and other breathing problems), diabetes, kidney problems, heart problems, those who are immunosuppressed or are aged over 65. It is important that you make an appointment at the beginning of October for these injections.
Minor Operations and cryotherapy - carried out by appointment after assessment by your doctor.
Smokestop Clinics are held locally regularly throughout the year. If you are still smoking please make an appointment to see your doctor in the first instance or contact the Dorset Smokestop Service direct on 01305 361255.
Well Person Checks - by appointment with the practice nurse in the first instance.
