Patient Transport Services [PTS] (previously known as hospital cars):

Dorset Clinical Commissioning Group ask that we emphasise that patient transport services are only provided for those patients whose medical condition or mobility is such that the patient requires the skills or support of clinically trained patient transport staff and/or their equipment during or after their journey.

Patient transport services are not provided for those who are able to get in and out of a vehicle and travel independently. The Dorset Patient Transport Bureau (Dorset PTB) will take over booking transport for patients who are eligible for the PTS, for all hospital appointments scheduled from 1.10.2013. (If you are eligible and have a hospital appointment after 1.10.2013 you can ring the following number after 16.9.2013). The number to ring is: 0300 777 5555.

If you are not eligible for patient transport services you are encouraged to make every effort to find a friend or family member to take you to the appointment. However, if necessary, the Dorset PTB will direct you to alternative methods of public and volunteer transport. If you are on low income, you may be able to get financial help from the "Healthcare Travel Costs Scheme" (HTCS). Call 0300 330 1343 (Help with Health costs help line) for further details.
