Community Midwives

The midwives work with the doctors to provide care for mums before and after delivery and care for the baby for at least the first ten days of life.  They can be contacted at Dorset County Hospital – the Cranbourne Team on 01305 254245.

Community Nurses

The community nurses provide nursing treatments and advice to the housebound and patients who have recently been discharged from hospital. They can be contacted via the surgery on 01258 453171. The community nurses and practice nurses work closely together and if you are not well enough to attend the surgery, you will be able to see the sommunity nurse. Your care may well be passed back to the practice nurse once you are out and about again.

Health Visitors

A health visitor is a registered nurse who has received training particularly related to babies, children and pregnant women. Their role is to provide families with children under five years old with support and advice around the general aspects of mental, physical and social wellbeing. They can be contacted either on the Blandford Clinic number of 452949 or on their direct line at the clinic 488929.  They work alongside the midwives at the time of ante natal care.

Weldmar Hospicecare Trust:

The trust nurse visits and cares for patients with cancer and those who are terminally ill, and gives advice and support to their families. The Weldmar Hospicecare Trust can be contacted on 01305 269898.

Community Psychiatric nurse:

The psychiatric nurse can help with elderly confused relatives and patients with mental health problems at home.

Practice Counsellor:

A trained counsellor visits the practice regularly. In discussion with your doctor you may decide that talking to a counsellor will help and your doctor can refer you to the local Wellbeing Service.  Alternatively you may refer yourself by telephoning 01258 474520.  Ask at the Surgery for a Wellbeing Service Self-Referral Leaflet or just ring the number and they will be able to help.

Social Services – (Health and Social Care):

The North Dorset department is based at Sturminster Newton and can be reached on 01258 472652.  The department will be happy to help and advise on problems relating to housing, finance and caring for the young, elderly or disadvantaged.
